Hi, I’m James Elliot (J.E.) McBride. I’m an artist working primarily in oil, as well as ink, charcoal, watercolor, and pastel.
My work focuses especially on portraiture and the human figure, seeking distillations of the little dramas of everyday life. I am drawn to the powerful landscapes of New England and my native Wisconsin, as well as the atmospheric effects of still life, interiors and architectural forms. I am largely self-taught, though in recent years I have studied under the guidance of painter Ron Frontin, in Rockland, Maine. My work has been included in several group gallery shows in Rockland and Tenants Harbor, Maine, and most recently in the Arthouse2B “De Compositions” group exhibition in New York City.
