Hi, I’m J.E. McBride. I’m an artist working primarily in oil, as well as ink, charcoal, watercolor, and pastel.

My work focuses especially on portraiture and the human figure, seeking distillations of the little dramas of everyday life. I am drawn to the powerful landscapes of New England and my native Wisconsin, as well as the atmospheric effects of still life, interiors and architectural forms. I am largely self-taught, though I am currently studying under the painter Ron Frontin, in Rockland, Maine. My paintings most recently appeared as part of an exhibition of ocean-themed art at the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge Art Gallery. A sometime poet, I was a finalist in the 2023 Catholic Literary Arts Sacred Poetry competition.
